What CEO is required for technology companies and radical innovations? An examination of CEO success fostering behaviours. Disruptive, radical innovations drive technology markets. Market stakeholders must demonstrate specific attributes to lead in such an environment. These attributes influence technology visions, technology strategy, organisational and process design significantly. In an article published in Harvard Business Review in 2017, Lytkina et al. postulate four behaviours that make a chief executive officer more successful than others. Besides, Lytkina et al. pointed out, that boards of directors often prefer other attributes of CEO candidates, which have no relation to their later success. Based on the latest peer-reviewed articles we answer the question, which CEO behaviours are necessary to steer an organisation in an environment of radical innovations and how these findings correlate and overlap with the research results of Lytkina et al. (2017). Moreover, we reflect on differences between these findings, draw conclusions and point out questions for further research.
